The creativity of developers has reached a point that they can make miracles. Indeed, they are able to create funny and artistic animations using the flexibility of CSS with the power of JavaScript. Nowadays, there is the emergence of some built-in properties in the CSS compilers that allow them to create animation by just using the CSS code. Actually, these animations, also called transitions, generate spectacular effects at the point they compete with JavaScript coded animations. Not to think that the transitions are going to dismiss JavaScript, but it is important to know if there is any limitation for them, and how far can they go?

CSS in brief:

CSS or the Cascading Style Sheets describe the scripts that gather the styles to assign to HTML tags. These sheets are the collection of the values to assign to the desired attributes. In fact, there are specific methods in use that allow you to pick the desired tag and assign the desired value to the attribute.

CSS transitions in brief:

The CSS are also able to generate animations without JavaScript. They are created using the CSS transition. It is based on four sole properties for the transition function property; delay, duration, and timing-function.  The transitions are supposed to exploit the different attributes used in the style scripting. The animations describe transitions between the several values of the considered attributes.

Besides, the transitions are defined using two methods:

  • As the usual CSS declaration of styles, with the use of a selector which is generally the element id.

Transition-property:…

Transition-duration:

Transition-timing-function:…

Transition-delay:…

  • A form called shorthand: gather all the properties.

Transition: property duration timing-function delay.

 CSS transform in brief:

The transform function is the core of the transition. It is the function that affects the elements in itself and it can be called by the transition. This function alters the attributes of the elements, such as its position, its borders. The transform function works in order to change the value of the attribute using the scale(), skew(), and rotate() functions. It is also possible to combine more than one operating transforms to make the animation more believable. It works on the 2D levels as well as on the 3D level.

 CSS transitions and limitations:

CSS animations have replaced JavaScript animations in many fields, but they still have some limitations. There are some aspects that are still the exclusive tasks of JavaScripting, or at least, not all browser can produce the same results.

  • Performing a complete and flawless scroll of the body of the document.
  • Creating flawless gradient animations.
  • Yet the background position can be altered by the CSS animations, the rest of the background attributes can’t be altered.
  • The height attribute is still a struggle for the CSS animations.

Conclusion:

It is expected that the freelance web designer Singapore find a way to fill the gap and upgrade the CSS animations and make them fulfill their needs. Besides, reducing the use of JavaScript may have some benefits. Knowing that script injection are hacks based on scripting vulnerabilities, the use of less JavaScripting would reduce hacks.
